LONG HAUL TOLL REBATE (Any Type & Size of Ship Laden/Ballast).
(SCA Circular No. 4/2013 and Periodical of 1st Sept. 2019, 10 Feb. 2025)
Any vessel—regardless of type, size, or whether in laden or ballast condition—may apply to the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) for a Suez Canal Toll Rebate. The application must demonstrate, through detailed voyage calculations, that the total cost of transiting via the Suez Canal exceeds the cost of the alternative route via the Cape of Good Hope, and request reimbursement of the cost difference in the form of a rebate on the Suez Canal tolls.
- A standard “Rebate Request Form” is submitted digitally by the vessel’s agent to the SCA prior to the vessel’s departure from the port of origin.
- The percentage rebate offered by the SCA may be accepted or declined by the applicant without any obligation or penalty in the event of rejection.
- A time limit of 70 days applies for the vessel to transit the Suez Canal from the date the rebate offer is issued by the SCA.
- Suez Canal transit tolls must be paid in full prior to the vessel’s transit.
- The rebate amount is refunded after the SCA approves the required official documentation confirming the vessel’s departure from the origin port and arrival at the destination port, with no intermediate commercial calls. Only bunkering or emergency calls are permitted, provided that official Port Certificates are submitted.
- Full supporting documents must be submitted to the SCA as a complete package within one year from the date of the vessel’s Suez Canal transit.
This rebate program remains valid indefinitely
